Afghanistan U19s qualified for ICC U-19 World Cup 2014 by winning the 2013 ACC U-19 Elite Cup. They had also qualified for the 2010 and 2012 world cups in a similar fashion too.
In 2012 world cup, Afghanistan u19s were the plate final runners up to Sri Lanka while India beat Australia by 6 wickets to win the tournament.
Currently, the Afghanistan u-19s are on a Pakistan tour. They are preparing for this campaign taking advantage of world class facilities and playing a series of friendly matches against local teams.
During this tour, the Un19s have been holding a three-week high performance coaching camp supervised by NCA’s (National Cricket Academy) elite coaches. Therefore, it was best for ACB to have a look at their players in depth and as result Afghanistan squad for ICC U-19 World Cup 2014 was selected.
They are also to play a series against Pakistan u-19s at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore in live Ptv telecast. The first match is due to be held on Tuesday the 21st of January.
Afghanistan u-19s should be in a good stead to do well in the ICC ODI U-19 World Cup UAE 2014 after covering and developing all aspects of their game in the Pakistan tour.
“Afghanistan Cricket Board CEO, Dr Noor Muhammad Murad, praised Afghanistan u-19s preparation and said that the national u-19 players will shine in the world cup” says ACB.
